Our Star Bakers were…

bake-offThank you to all those who entered The Great Hethersett Bake Off at the fete yesterday. The cakes were greatly admired and then sold by the slice after the judging.

  • First Place in the Decorated Cupcakes category and Best in Show was awarded to Tamsin Martin. The judges were very impressed by both the look and taste of her fabulous ice cream cone inspired vanilla cupcakes.
  • First Place in the Victoria Sandwich category – the toughest category this year – was awarded to Stella Girling (Year 5).  Stella was also a close contender for Best in Show.
  • First Place in the Tray Bake category was awarded to Sam Kassulke for his delicious chocolate brownies.
  • First Place in the Scones category was awarded to Maisie Alger (Year 9), who just pipped her mum to the post.
  • And finally, in the hotly fought Biscuits category (!), Becky Greenfield was awarded First, Second and the wooden spoon!

All of our ‘Star Bakers’ won a copy of the Mary Berry/Paul Hollywood Bake Off cookery book.

A big thank you to Mrs Morgan and Mrs Richards for stepping in to do the judging – probably one of the best jobs on the day!

Ready, steady, BAKE!

Do you think you can give Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood a run for their money?

There are only 9 days to go, so it’s almost time to get on your aprons, turn up the ovens and dust off those cake tins.

Ready, steady, BAKE!

Just 18 days left till the summer fete!

HOHS-FETE-header

Our fun-packed summer fete is not far off now (Saturday 11th May), and this year, as part of our 75th anniversary celebrations, we are going back to the good old days and bringing you all those ‘fete classics’ that we’re sure you’ll love.

With swing boats, archery, welly wanging, Punch & Judy, coconut shy and tug o’war, as well as all the usual class stalls, BBQ, crepes, ice cream, plants and produce, raffle, tombola and more, it’s fast shaping up to be a fantastic day out for all the family.

This year we are also holding the first-ever Great Hethersett Bake Off, with a range of categories suitable for all budding pastry chefs to enter!

Following on from the success of last year, and the record amount of money we raised – much of which was spent on improving the outside play equipment in the Prep Department – we are hoping to make this another event to remember, and of course to raise plenty of money for the extra items in school that your sons and daughters will benefit from.

None of this would be possible without your help, so if you are able to donate any of the following we would be extremely grateful. They can be brought into school and left in the office as soon as possible.

* Good condition books and toys
* Tombola prizes
* Raffle prizes
* Jams, preserves and produce
* Cakes and Plants (to be brought into school on Friday 10 May or Fete day)
* Gazebo and bunting
* Children’s Jam Jar Tombola

Finally, we are looking for offers of help on the day. ‘Many hands make light work!’ So if you are able to spare an hour or two please contact Deborah Clemitshaw via the School reception desk.
